My staff and I met with City Dept. of Transportation Services representatives and its Complete Streets consultant Melissa White last month, and received additional feedback from participants in the March 14, 2018 Advisory Group meeting for the Nuuanu-Liliha Complete Streets project:
- The Nuuanu Avenue Alternative #3 does not include bike lanes along the segment of Nuuanu Avenue between Wyllie Avenue down to Kuakini Street. However, bike lanes are proposed for the segment of Nuuanu Avenue between Kuakini Street and School Street, resulting in a loss of 6 on-street parking spaces.
- The segment of Nuuanu Avenue between Wyllie Avenue and Judd Street would be reduced to one lane in each direction to provide for wider sidewalks along that segment of the roadway.
- Roundabouts for the Liliha Street/Judd Street intersection and Liliha Street/ Wyllie Avenue are also proposed for Liliha Street Alternative #2.
SSFM consultant Melissa White reports that consultants have posted the revised concepts online on the Department of Transportation Services Complete Streets website (http://www.honolulu.gov/completestreets/liliha- nuuanu).Asecond round of community outreach and community meetings will follow either this month, or in May. Please review the posted proposals carefully, and let area legislators know of your concerns.
