Last month, the Council considered the City administration’s revenue bills for the upcoming fiscal year. I have received many comments from constituents regarding Bill 19 (text available at https://bit.ly/2Jvv8DH) which authorizes fees for City-provided refuse collection service for multi-family, ADU/related residences and nonprofit organizations, and appointment-based bulky item collection.
If adopted, single-family homes, multi-unit residential buildings, and accessory dwelling units will be charged a base $5 monthly fee, with a $2.50 charge per additional refuse bin. Procedures for bulky waste collection will be appointment-based; requesters will be charged $10 per cubic yard of waste, and must pay the collection charge prior to the scheduled pick-up date.
Bill 19 passed first reading during the March 28 full Council meeting, and will be considered during the continuation of the April 11, 2018 Special Budget Committee meeting on April 12, 2018.
