I have requested that Department of Transportation Services provide a representative to attend the February 14th NB #16 meeting to respond to questions from board members and the community.
Go here to review background information on the City’s proposed short-term and long-term safety improvements:
• April 23, 2015 Department of Transportation Services Cost Estimates for FY 16 appropriation of $752,000
• August 11, 2016 Letter to DTS Director Formby and Traffic Engineer Akasaki regarding Kalihi Street “S Curve” short-term and long-term improvements
• May 2, 2017 Letter from DTS Director Frysztacki regarding short-term improvements proposed for Kalihi Street “S Curve”
My staff and I have also encouraged Director Frysztacki and Deputy Director Nouchi to pursue long-term straightening and improvements to the Kalihi Street “S Curve” because abutting property owner Keiki o Ka Aina PreSchool has expressed a willingness to partner with the City administration on a possible pedestrian pathway on its property. Such an action reduces potential costs of more complex engineering and safety modifications to the roadway itself, and can be done in a straightforward manner.
