Councilmembers Kobayashi, Ozawa and I are convening a Fire Safety Community Forum on Saturday, September 16th between 10:00 AM-Noon at Mission Memorial Auditorium to hear from condo owners, condo management representatives and other concerned residents regarding the impact of requiring existing high-rise residential buildings without sprinklers in each unit to meet fire safety regulations currently in place for hotel and commercial buildings.
The community meeting will provide an overview of current fire safety regulations, present possible fire safety alternatives, inform the public of possible financing options for fire sprinklers and fire safety alternatives, and provide a forum for discussion and input by the public. Free parking will be available in the City’s municipal parking lots.
While most Aiea residential condominium properties are not affected by the proposal, the following buildings have been identified in the 2005 Residential Fire Safety Advisory Committee study as non- sprinklered buildings: Pearl One and the Highlander on Koauka Loop, and Kauhale Condominiums on Kauhale Street.
