On March 18th, the Aiea High School baseball team officially launched its 2017 baseball season with a press conference led by Mayor Caldwell to celebrate the reopening of the baseball field at Aiea District Park. The Aiea community has long awaited the reopening of this field, which closed for repairs last year, forcing the Aiea High School baseball team to forgo home games during the 2016 season.
As one of my first FY 15 CIP recommendations for District 6 recreational sites, the improvements to Aiea District Park included reconstruction of the field’s backstop and infield, and improvements to the outfield grass.
We also obtained a new appropriation of $1.3 million in FY 2017 for replacement of field lighting, a longstanding community concern.
This year, I am seeking a Proposed CD1 amendment to Bill 26 (FY 18 CIP budget) to add $125,000 for a replacement batting cage for use
by Aiea High’s baseball team and other Aiea District Park baseball field users. Please contact Roelle Torres at roelle.torres@honolulu. gov or at 768-5073 if you’re able to provide supportive testimony!
