Last month, Liholiho Street residents reported that piles of trash and debris underneath the bridge over Makiki Stream raised significant health concerns in the neighborhood since rats have become more prevalent in the area. Residents voiced complaints about the overgrown foliage/sediment in the streambed.
The City Department of Facility Maintenance (DFM) has committed to clear the trash and debris underneath the bridge since the bridge is owned by the City. However, DFM was unable to determine the ownership for those segments of the streambed that are covered in overgrowth. We have sought assistance from Representative Della Au Belatti and her staff to determine whether any portions of that section of Makiki Stream are owned by the State.
