In recent months, residents have complained about commercial vehicles parked continuously on Ala Waiopua Street. Residents believe that the commercial vehicles pose a safety hazard because of its width, which obstructs motorists’ views while traveling through this area.
According to Section 15-16.6, Revised Ordinances of Honolulu (attached), the City’s traffic code limits the length of time that commercial vehicles that meet certain standards can be parked on a public street. If a commercial vehicle has a gross vehicle rating of 10,000 pounds or more, or whose length from bumper to bumper is 20 feet or more, the specific vehicle may not park on a public street for more than four consecutive hours.
I have submitted a Request for Investigation and Services Report to the Mayor’s office, which was referred to HPD for enforcement. We’ll keep you posted on the outcome of HPD enforcement at next month’s meeting. Please contact my Constituent Services Aide Amanda Morales at 768-5073 if you have additional questions or concerns.
