As we celebrate the beginning of the 2016-Year of the Monkey festivities, it’s worth nothing significant milestones of several Chinese organizations and societies that celebrate significant milestones this year: they include the 20th anniversary of the Hong Kong Business Association of Hawaii, the 35th anniversary of the Association of Chinese from Vietnam, Cambodia, and Laos, and the 125th anniversary of the Lung Doo Benevolent Society of Hawaii! Congratulations to these organizations for their outstanding contributions to Hawaii’s Chinese community and to the community at large.
February 29th also signified the kick-off date for the United States-Chinese tourism initiative, which celebrates the Year of the Red Monkey as the “Year of U.S.-China Tourism.” Last September, United States President Barack Obama and Chinese President Xi Jinping announced that the U.S.-China Tourism Year will celebrate the recent reciprocal extension of visa validity and support increased travel and tourism exports.
The two countries will work toward expanding and shaping U.S.-China travel and tourism and strengthening the bond between the two peoples.
The City Council will also be commemorating this unique year through its recognition of the 67th Narcissus Court during March 16, 2016, Council Meeting at Honolulu Hale. Please join us at Honolulu Hale’s Council chambers in welcoming Queen Ashley Fu, 1st Princess Cassandra Chang, 2nd Princess Jill Lau Fukumoto, 3rd Princess Jessica Cheng, and 4th Princess Lena Zheng.
