Dilapidated basketball court conditions at Dole Community Park have been a big concern for Makiki/Punchbowl neighbors during recent months. After meeting with Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR) Director Nekota and her staff last week, I learned that the basketball courts surfaces require reconstruction rather than resurfacing. We are awaiting cost estimates from Department of Design and Construction on reconstruction costs and will propose additional funding for the City’s CIP budget to complete the repairs. Please encourage your neighborhood board to endorse this project.
The missing vanity wall in Dole Community Park men’s restroom was also brought up by board members. DPR maintenance staff determined that the wall was rusted and broken, and removed the wall as a safety precaution. DPR is currently evaluating whether the wall should be repaired or replaced entirely. My staff and I will keep the board apprised of progress on the repairs.
