Recognizing the 8th Annual Ukulele Picnic in Hawaii on February 14th, my staff and I attended the 2016 Ukulele Picnic in Hawaii at Kakaako Makai Gateway Park, where I presented a certificate to event founder Kazuyuki Sekiguchi to commemorate his “8th Ukulele Picnic in Hawaii” event.
The “Ukulele Picnic in Hawaii” is an event developed to promote international cultural exchange through ukulele music with visitors from around the world. It attracts thousands of local families, tourists, and musicians from around the world. Mr. Sekiguchi also donated 100 ukulele to students from Kamaile Academy, Kalihi Kai Elementary School, Waianae Elementary School, and to children from low-income families through the Salvation Army.
This year’s event featured ukulele performances from Japanese, Thailand, and Hawaii-based groups, as well as the 5th Annual International Ukulele Contest Champion Feng E from Taiwan. The funds raised from the various food booths and raffle will go toward establishing an ukulele museum in Hawaii. Mahalo again to Mr. Sekiguchi for hosting this outstanding cultural event!
