To address questions regarding repaving delays for Houghtailing Street, area legislators Chun Oakland, Ohno and I asked Department of Design and Construction for updates on the project. The street is a part of the Rehabilitation of Streets, Unit 75 Project, which has been delayed due to conflicts with utility projects:
- Three utility projects are planned for the area: the first is a sewer rehabilitation project from Nimitz Highway to North School Street.
- This project is tentatively set from 2017-2019.An area sewer project between Notley Street and Kalihi Street is scheduled to begin construction in 2018 and end in 2019.
- A Board of Water Supply water systems improvement project is being designed on North School Street from Kamehameha IV Road-Houghtailing Street. This project is tentatively set for 2019-2020.
Although a full repaving of Houghtailing Street is currently delayed, the Department of Facility Maintenance (DFM) was asked to evaluate Houghtailing and other streets, and to perform temporary repairs in the interim.
