Downtown/Chinatown organizations are finalizing their preparations for a dynamic Year of the Fire Monkey (February 8, 2016) with the following events: On January 9th, the 67th Narcissus Queen Pageant is being held at the Hawaii Theatre Center, followed by the Narcissus Coronation Ball on January 30 at the Hilton Hawaiian Village Coral Ballroom. These activities will be augmented by the annual Night in Chinatown Parade on Saturday, January 30 to kick off Chinese New Year festivities with a bang: experts say that the Red Monkey is the year to create change.
Because of the enthusiastic energy of the Monkey, plans may succeed and anything can happen with minimal risks and satisfying rewards. People are also warned about trusting the wrong ones this year because some may trick the gullible to take advantage of them.
Chinese New Year’s celebrations will continue the following weekend from Friday, February 5 (5 pm to 10 pm), to Saturday, February 6 (9 am to 10 pm) at the Chinatown Cultural Plaza. Please join area legislators and the Chinese community as we ring in the Year of the Monkey with a week of food, fun, and entertainment!
