Congratulations to Moanalua Elementary and Moanalua High School for their success in the 2015 Bank for Education KeikiCo Contest! This contest challenges keiki to develop a business plan and craft a video pitch that persuades people to use their product.
The contest is separated into three divisions: 3rd-5th grade, 6th-8th grade, and 9th-12th grade, with the winners of each division receiving $25,000 for their schools. A $10,000 County Prize is also awarded to schools with the highest percentage of participating students in each county. Moanalua Elementary and Moanalua High School received first place in the 3rd-5th Grade division and in the High School division, with Moanalua Elementary also earning the County Prize for Oahu. Both school advisors Karen Miyamoto and Fred Ito also received the Outstanding Mentor awards in their respective divisions.
It’s great to see Moanalua’s keiki competing and succeeding in their endeavors, especially in the digital media arena! As a long-time advocate for the development of quality film/ digital media jobs in Hawaii, I hope these students’ success encourages parents and community members to continue investing in these digital media programs in our Moanalua public schools!
