Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR) representatives have confirmed the start of Aiea District Park’s long-awaited reconfiguration of the baseball field on January 19, 2016. The January 19th start date allows the Aiea High School junior varsity baseball team to finish its season — which ends on January 16 — before construction begins. This project was scheduled to start in December 2015, but renovations have been delayed to early 2016. My staff and I will report back on the baseball field reconfiguration timetable since the funding was appropriated in the FY 2014 executive budget bill. After receiving an overgrowth/poor maintenance complaint about Napuanani Park, my staff sought an explanation for the maintenance delays. DPR’s Aiea maintenance supervisor advised that grass mowing occurs weekly and trimming is done twice a month by DPR staff. However, staff shortages have resulted in a delayed schedule — with trimming now being conducted once a month in areas of heaviest usage. Attached for your information is a copy of a map of Napuanani Park’s boundaries. Please contact Roelle Torres of my staff at 768-5071 or at firstname.lastname@example.org to report additional Aiea-Halawa Heights parks concerns.
